On the exterior of the new Noorderlicht Nova apartment building in Hoorn, located near the train station and alongside the railway tracks, the artwork SOUL comes to life. Six lines of light form a frieze on the second floor, capturing the rhythms of daily life.
The frieze spans 50 meters, divided into 2-meter sections, with abstract figures that appear to move – walking, running, meeting, and parting – while a train occasionally passes by. The piece draws inspiration from the everyday rhythms shaped by urban surroundings. It’s like recognizing a friend from a distance by the way they move—because that’s a rhythm with soul.
This work was commissioned by the housing corporation Intermaris and the municipality of Hoorn. The animations were created by Giny Vos in collaboration with Mila Baumann.
